Close By, Brisbane

CLOSE BY, BRISBANE

With each collection, we find ourselves inspired by the places closest to home — the side streets, corner stores and cafés that shape our daily rhythm.

Close By is a series celebrating the neighbourhoods around our Lee Mathews stores. More than a guide, it’s a way of seeing — uncovering the small, special places that make each location feel like its own little world.

Next stop, Brisbane. A city full of character and creative energy. From the considered design of Hausmarkt to the art-filled calm of IMA Gallery, and the welcoming shelves of Mary Ryan’s, Brisbane’s charm lives in its people and places. A morning pastry at Idle Bakery, an evening glass of Champagne at Winnifred’s, or dinner at Bar Francine — each visit a reminder that inspiration begins close to home.

BAR FRANCINE

15 MINUTE DRIVE

Some of the best spots are often the most unassuming. Bar Francine doesn't look like much from outside, but once you step foot inside this charming restaurant bar, you'll feel right at home. Owners Adrienne and Rick are passionate about authentic service, and an incredible wine selection to pair with their Euro style eats. Food here is seasonal, local, and delicious! Enjoy a glass of The 11th House Sorella, while looking at the kitch salt and pepper shakers proudly displayed with the preserves.

A favourite amongst the local community. From the comfort of handmade breads and pastries, to coffee and pantry staples, Idle Bakery has you covered. With a very pleasing interior, you'll enjoy selecting both sweet and savoury snacks from the cabinet, or enjoy a meal from their menu. Our favourite is the Mango Elderflower Danish paired with an oat flat white.

One of our favourite spots to stroll up to, the IMA gallery is pleasingly quiet and often showcasing local talent. We love the gallery shop where you can pick up work from some of Brisbane's most talented creatives, as well as a library to envy. Chill in one of the perfectly blue armchairs and enjoy a good book.

HAUSMRKT

Founder Tom was interested in finding a way to merge industrial design, homewares, and Japanese practicality all in one, which is how Hausmarkt came to be. Utilitarian, practical, and sustainable, you could spend hours looking through the drawers and shelves of this little gem. You're bound to find the perfect gift, and perhaps even something for yourself.

WINNIFREDS

Boasting the largest selection of Champagne in the Southern Hemisphere, there is truly so much to take in at Winnifred's. The incredible fit-out boasts 5 different spaces, but the front garden is our favourite spot. Enjoy something small from the French Bistro menu, while peeping into the Champagne Bar from outside. It makes for a beautiful summer evening. Oh and did we mention it's the first net-zero venue in Australia? That is something worth toasting to.
